Prince William visited St. Michael's Church of England High School in Rowley Regis, meeting 12-year-old Freddie Hadley. Last year, Freddie sought the Prince's support for a mental health campaign tied to The Matrix Project, focusing on male mental health issues.

Upon Prince William's arrival, the student and school officials warmly welcomed him and Freddie was thrilled about their close encounter. He said, "As soon as he came around, I thought, 'That's Prince William.' It was absolutely insane."

During their introduction, Prince William commended Freddie's initiative, "So this is the young lad who started it all off," he remarked. "I promised I would come," he added. He also acknowledged the impact of his well-written letter, telling him, "Your letter worked."

However, Prince William apologized as he visited the school without his wife. "I am sorry Catherine can't be here as well. She would have loved to," he said. Despite her absence, the royal's presence alone brightened Freddie's day and underscored the royal's support for the boy’s mental health advocacy efforts.

Freddie wrote a letter in October 2023, inviting Prince William to the soft launch of the "#AmIManlyEnough?" campaign, which challenges the stigma surrounding male emotions and promotes mental health discussions.

The letter gained attention on X, formerly known as Twitter, which led to an official response from The Prince and Princess of Wales. "Good afternoon Freddie, I'm so sorry Catherine and I can't be with you and the rest of the students at St Michael's today," the message read. However, the Prince encouraged Freddie to "keep up this important work."

Besides meeting Freddie in person, Prince William also met with other students, sharing his warmth and humor. He participated in the school's radio show and entertained them with his daughter, Princess Charlotte's favorite joke.

Initiating the joke, Prince William said, "Knock, knock," to which the students replied, "Who's there?" He then quickly interjected with, "Interrupting cow," followed by a timely "Mooo!" before the students could respond.

This trip was one of several recent public engagements for Prince William. A month earlier, he traveled to Sheffield to discuss a homelessness project. There, he spoke with Kate Joseph, the chief executive of Sheffield City Council, emphasizing the critical impact of childhood experiences.

Notably, Princess Catherine was absent from the engagement. Prince William also hinted that his wife, an expert on childhood development, would have appreciated the discussions, saying, "Venturing into my wife's territory here. She needs to be sat here to hear this."

Although she wasn't present during the Sheffield visit, Princess Catherine recently made headlines for her new historical role in the Royal family. On April 23, King Charles III announced that Princess Catherine would become the Royal Companion of the Order of the Companions of Honour. This was the first appointment for any royal.

The Order of the Companions of Honour was established by King George V in 1917. It is an exclusive society limited to 65 members at any given time. However, additional honorary members from outside the Commonwealth are allowed. Notable figures among its ranks include Sir Elton John, Sir David Attenborough, Anna Wintour, Dame Maggie Smith, and Dame Judi Dench.

The announcement of Catherine’s new role has raised eyebrows. It has prompted a flurry of online comments expressing confusion and concern, and thoughts from the online community range from skeptical to supportive.

"Definitely a distraction as to what is really happening but okay," one comment read, hinting at underlying royal dynamics. "But where is she?" asked another, highlighting the Princess's noticeable absence from public engagements. "A Royal Companion never heard of that role," a person noted.

"She still hasn't been seen in public since Dec 25th, and no one seems concerned with this at all?" another person expressed. "Where is she now?" a comment echoed. "I hope she is getting better," a Facebook user shared. "Ermm what kind of title is that?" questioned another, puzzled over the significance of the new title.

It's clear that while the honor is significant, it also casts a spotlight on Catherine's recent low profile. This has stirred public curiosity and concern about her well-being and the circumstances surrounding her new royal duties.

The appointment coincides with a challenging personal period as Catherine undergoes cancer treatment. This new role highlights the deep familial and supportive bonds within the royal family during her health struggles.

King Charles, who was also diagnosed with cancer, shares a particularly close relationship with Catherine. "He has always had a very good bond with her. I don’t think it is presumptuous to say that she is like the daughter he never had," explained royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith.

The bond between Princess Catherine and the King is fortified by their shared experiences and mutual support during these trying times. The Monarch even expressed pride in Catherine’s bravery following her cancer diagnosis on March 22. Her announcement came after much public speculation about her health.

In it, she expressed her commitment to her recovery, supported by her family. "She has the inner strength, the support of her husband and her extraordinary family, so she can focus on what’s important, which is her getting back to strength," commented Ailsa Anderson, former spokeswoman for the late Queen Elizabeth.

Catherine shared that having her husband by her side has been immensely comforting. The couple’s children also played a significant part in the timing of her announcement.

This shared experience of health challenges further solidifies the connection between Catherine and King Charles, beyond their roles within the monarchy. The announcement also came on Prince Louis's 6th birthday, a day his parents celebrated with a lovely Instagram post.
